Hook Norton is my spiritual home

July 25, 2006

Just got back from our annual sojourn to the cotswolds. I think that this one weekend a year where I meet up with Andy, Gibbo, Darce, Pedz, Whipper and less occassionally Leo, Wheeldon and the sliver fox himself, Inglis is definitely one of my favourite events of the whole year.  It must be the combination of camping, beer, football and human pyramids (and beer).

This year it rained which is very unusual and it made it into a different experience again from previous years. We met new people, listened to some of the music and even had a lockin in the beer tent at the end of the night. Of course we still did all the usual stuff, Aunt Sally, footy, singing, pyramids, but with the extras it made this year that much better than previous ones (although they are all good).

I won’t recommend that you all high tail down there next year (there could be women and children reading this and it is NOT a family do it’s strictly for grissly beardy blokes)  but if you do ever find yourself at a loose endon July the 17th or thereabouts (or sometimes the week after - just to keep you guessing) and you are in the Oxfordshire area then do drop by and share an ale or two with us.

In the Summertime

July 20, 2006

I do like to title my blogs with songs.

The whole of July and no word from me, how have you all coped? I have been mad busy with everything so don’t ask. I am here now and that is all that matters. I think blogging is a Winter sport anyway.

It is indeed Summer and a very fine one it is. Allegedly the same sort of pattern as 2003 which by all accounts was a good year. Don’t expect me to remember it though I can barely remember last week.

This weekend the Goat Hurlers are meeting up again at the Hook Norton Festival of Fine Ales. For anyone at a loose end on Saturday and near the Oxford area I cannot recommend this event highly enough. It is brilliant. Beer, sunshine, food and more beer. Oh and some music (and more beer).

I shall try to write something up of my exploits and maybe post a picture or 2 on here but I can’t promise anything because I am on my own in work for the next 2 weeks as it is Ade’s annual fortnight in  France with his lads. After that I am away myself (more of that later) so it may be as barren a blog as my back garden is becoming in this heatwave.

Which is where I started so I will go.
